The following announcement is from Rick Mulholland, the NSLD and ISLD
coordinator.

There are lots of ideas and materials already on this site. There is a new
poster using the illustration that author / illustrator Tony Ross did for
us last year. Chestnut Publishing Group generously donated a picture from
Margriet Ruurs new book titled, Ms. Bee's Magical Bookcase, to be used if
school districts would like to hold a colouring contest. The book is
illustrated by Andrew Gooderham and would make a great addition to any
school library.

Last year we held a picture and poster contest for the students in
Chilliwack and plan to do a similar event this year.
It's never too early to start planning for October.

3rd NATIONAL SCHOOL LIBRARY DAY OCTOBER 24th 2005

In order to highlight the wonderful work school libraries are doing across
the country, the National School Library Day committee (under the auspices
of CASL) is pleased to announce the theme for this year's celebration. The
theme is, "Discover the Adventure" which highlights the need to rediscover
what school libraries have to offer in key areas of education today. School
libraries promote reading and literacy skills, as well as information
skills. They help to provide the foundations for lifelong learning. School
libraries matter and make a difference!

The committee will begin to add information on ideas for activities,
international communication projects, and sample materials to use etc. to
the NSLD website <http://www.nsld.ca/>www.nsld.ca over the next few months.
