Another option for this would be to make sure you contact your photography instructors / digital media instructors to ask if they are interested in the materials for use in their classrooms (assignments, programs, research, or personal use) and offer these materials for the classroom if you don't plan to keep them in the library. If the curriculum still refers to the use of standard cameras (with film), then definitely keep those materials on the shelves and update them to reflect the newer models that have some unique features. (I agree---as a journalism minor, I loved the photography aspect of this subject area and the entire history of photography is one that should not be ignored, even as we advance toward the digital movement. There's still a lot of "flash" to the subject that shouldn't be ignored!) ~Shonda Shonda Brisco, MLIS US / Technology Librarian Fort Worth Country Day School Fort Worth, TX sbrisco@fwcds.org http://www.fwcds.org/campus/libraries/default.asp http://webpages.charter.net/sbrisco/index.html >>> Dennis Hollingsead <hollings@ANDREWS.EDU> 11/01/05 8:45 AM >>> I would still be VERY careful about weeding ALL photo books using older technology. There are still those professionals who insist on film as their first choice. And many professionals and amateurs still appreciate and use black & white film. I am sure there is still some use for these older books, if nothing else as historical interest and documentation. Big change, *right? If your library media collection titles on photography have not *changed in the last ten or twenty years, the students are not getting *what they need to maintain an interest and answer their questions in *this subject area. . -------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
