Fellow Netters, This is the scenario: 3 schools and 4 programs using a media center; hours 8:30-3:30...I get here at 7:30 and stay to 4:30 or 5 on days with no meetings; classes are here 20 minutes; students K-2 check out 1 book, 3 - 6 may have up to 4 out which means they check out 4 most days. I try to alternate check out with book talks, skills(that's a laugh); have to run a book fair in two weeks sans help. Oh, it is I with no aide, but I do have students who help with shelving and with check in. When classes come I've asked that they check in books and place on a shelving cart. Works OK with one book and when we're on schedule, but all too often I am checking out books at one computer when another comes in. Flex schedule with 2100 students would not work well. Tonight as I look at stuffed shelving carts and stack of books on the floor I can barely stand it. I haven't done anything but clerical stuff for days: no cataloging, no gathering of resources for teachers; no preparation for the bookfair; not returned phone calls. Some of this is because my prep was taken up with the AV repair man who stopped in and took time to show me how to fix an overhead. I could just sit down and cry! But nothing would be solved by that. Instead, I'd like to know how those of you in large libraries with no help orchestrate talks and days to do it all. Thanks!
