Yes, the shapes do mean something specific and there are several websites
that explain the differences. Go to Google and search for flowcharts and one
of the sites that comes up will probably be this one:

http://deming.eng.clemson.edu/pub/tutorials/qctools/flowm.htm

a lot of the other sites want to sell you software.

Subject: Creating Flowchart

I hope this question is understood. For flowcharts, do I have to use a
particular shape for a particular section of the flowchart? I mean, I am
creating
a flowchart for processing new library materials. Do I have to use certain
shapes on Microsoft Word drawing tools for a certain step of the process?
Or
can I be creative?
