Here is a "hit" of information I have gathered from LM_NETTERS and other sources ORIGINAL POST TO LM_NET I have a teacher who is very interested in starting a classroom blog about Macbeth. I have no experience with managing a blog. I know that our filter blocks many if not most of them. However - I do know that word press http://wordpress.org/ is currently unblocked. I am hoping to tap your collective wisdom: 1.) Do you know of other blogging sites that might not be blocked by interenet filters? 2.) Do you have any teachers who are managing classroom blogs? If so - can you share the web addresses? 3.) Do you know anyone who is specifically managing a classroom blog on Shakespeare - or any of his plays? VARIOUS WEB/BLOG SITES To Try Blogmeister http://classblogmeister.com/ This one was recommended a few times. I know that the guy who organizes it is very good. I would trust anything he organized to be easy to use and relatively glitch-free. MISCELLANEOUS "STUFF" I FOUND ON WEB An English 12 blog http://blogs.writingproject.org/blogwrite64/ Bud The Teacher Blog http://budtheteacher.typepad.com/bud_the_teacher/teaching_reflection/ Not a blog - but looks interesting Web English Teacher http://www.webenglishteacher.com/index.html A shakespeare blog (not student created) http://shakespearemag.blogspot.com/ ASSORTED COMMENTS At our school, each teacher has a blog that is managed by the school called Moodle. The high school teacher's love it! You can set passwords so that only students in your class can access your blog or a section of your blog. Colleges like to use the software called Blackboard but it is expensive. There are some free blog sites but anyone can access the sites. If you would like to look at our school's moodle site, go to the following link. Beware that many teacher's have their sections blocked for students but I have my media center open for anyone to see. http://chs.chapmanirish.net/moodle/ The wordpress.org site is just for downloading the software to install on your server. Actually, if the school tech dept says OK, it is very easy to set up (they advertise 5 minutes, and it hasn't taken me that long the last three times) and run. But if that is not possible, try class blogmeister, available through David Warlick <http://classblogmeister.com/> , registration is on right side. There is even a flow chart to walk through registration and setup! Hello, I just started a blog at www.blogger.com. It's very easy to use and I'm not aware of any of their blogs being blocked by filters. There's not much on my blog yet, but if you want to check it out it's at http://eviespace.blogspot.com/. I didn't have any experience and was able to set it up in about 20 minutes. Hello from a bit to the West. Judy Marsh has me coming in for the WFL SLS library day on Jan 26th. We will be looking at Blogmeister on that day as well, so if I can help with a bit of a preview let me know. Blogmeister is not blocked and is indeed very easy to use. Some of the librarians and teachers over here in GVBOCES are using it. I would be more than happy to help out with some tips and pointers if you need... Right now I and the technology specialist at our high school are working with an inclusion class to create a science standards blog. We are using Blogmeister. You can try to get into it at http://www.classblogmeister.com. You will have to get a school password and then establish a techer account. Students then can have their own accounts We have a teacher who is using http:/myblogsite.com having the students write literary responses to the book, Monster by Walter Dean Myers. The kids are blowing the teacher away with their responses, I think we have found the student's current medium for expression.
