I rotate my weeks so I can include the fun stuff as well as the required
stuff in my lessons. 1st and 2nd grade rotate read day and activity day.
3rd and 4th rotate Read Day, Lesson Day, Activity Day and Promo Day. 5th
grade rotates Write Day, Read Day, Lesson Day, Activity Day and Promo Day.
6th grade rotates Read Day, Lesson Day, Lesson Activity Day, Activity Day,
and Promo Day.

I find that this works very well. Our classes visit the library once a week
for 40 minutes. I usually try and allow 10 - 15 minutes for checkout.

Will you please share some of your ideas that would work for activity day.
You can really say that anything goes. I do Tale Spins (a game that uses
pictures to create stories), the basketball game (students get a chance to
make a "basket" for answering the Brain Quest questions correctly), creating
bookmarks, puzzles, United Streaming videos, computer activities that are
book/author related, etc. For the younger grades this is used to promote
books also, so we do the book/prop/CD kind of thing.

Do you have anything that you are currently doing that the kids really
enjoy? Will you please share and I will post a hit. I will include more
information about the actiivities listed above in my hit.

Thanks,
Dawn VanLerberghe
