Dear Fellow School Library Media Specialists, We are conducting a survey entitled Analyzing Diversity Recruitment and Retention in School Librarianship: Why Have Current Minorities Chosen the Career Path to Become School Library Media Specialists? -- a study supported by the University at Buffalo, State University of New York, Department of Information and Library Studies. If you are a member of an underrepresented minority group and a school library media specialist, please consider completing our survey questionnaire. The purposes of our study are to (1) discover why minorities who are currently school media specialists became interested in the field, (2) to find out what professional development opportunities exist for minority media specialists, and (3) to determine means of successfully retaining minorities in the field of school librarianship. The primary reason for the study is not only to discover how to increase the presence of minority school librarians, but also to find solutions to the problem of ensuring equity concerning recruitment into the Library and Information Studies (LIS) graduate programs, promotion, professional development, and personal success. This study has fulfilled the requirements for conducting human-subject research. Your response will be strictly anonymous. To ensure that your voice be heard, please send your responses as soon as possible. If you are interested in participating in this survey or have any questions, please reply to the principal investigator, Paulette Collins at mspaulette@yahoo.com, so that a copy of the survey can be mailed to you via postal mail. Include the address to which the survey should be mailed. You will have two weeks to complete the survey and send it back to us in the self-addressed, stamped envelope provided. Thank you so much! Sincerely, Paulette Collins and Ayodele Ojumu Principal and Co-Investigator University at Buffalo, State University of New York -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
