I am also preparing to teach Information Literacy Courses to my juniors and seniors in preparation for college. I plan to provide the students with links to their university libraries (from our website) so that they can begin to browse the holdings, the lists of online databases that are available there, and perhaps to even make a connection with a university librarian before they attend. In addition, I plan to teach some of the basic skills that I felt the might need going into the university program (including the LC classification system and how it differs from the DDC). I am currently monitoring the INFOLIT listserv to learn more about what university librarians are doing (and to get a better idea of what their perspective is of high school librarians / preparation of high school students for college). Many on the list offer some great resources to use to prepare students for college and I am hoping to use their ideas, suggestions, and comments to build my curriculum. If others have ideas, I'd appreciate comments (or a HIT) from this request! ~Shonda Shonda Brisco, MLIS US / Technology Librarian Fort Worth Country Day School Fort Worth, TX sbrisco@fwcds.org http://www.fwcds.org/campus/libraries/default.asp >>> Cindy Gulden <tl_cgulden@K12SERVER.MVECA.ORG> 11/07/05 9:53 AM >>> Hello, I am contemplating a proposal for an Information Literacy Course as an English credit for college-bound upperclassmen at my high school. I would like to know how many of you have or teach such a course in your high school. Additionally, any information regarding a course, such as enrollment, curriculum, and general suggestions would also be appreciated. I attended a session at OELMA last year where a high school librarian and a university librarian collaborated in the transition and preparedness of college freshmen regarding information literacy. This information will help to support my recommendation. If any of you have some similar relationship or program I would appreciate information on that, as well. I also have information from the archives regarding similar courses, but any updates would be helpful. Cindy --- Cynthia Gulden Library Media Specialist Tecumseh High School 9830 W. National Rd.
