Hi Kathy, You are correct on all counts: 1. You may not transfer a work to another medium, e.g., film to video, or video to computer disk except in cases of obsolete media - meaning the VHS playing machine is obsolete not the fact that you can no longer buy the work on VHS. 2. You may not make an archival copy of film, video or audio like you can for software. Source: "Copyright for schools: A practical guide" 3rd Edition. pp. 54 & 47. So, when the VHS player is no longer made, I can make copies of all my VHS tapes to DVD's; and only then. In the meantime, we are purchasing dual VHS/DVD players. Hope this helps.
