[LM_NET] TARGET: Need Book Title

I have a request from an adult for a book title -- he read it when he 
was fifth grade (about 1978); it is set in Vietnam during the Vietnam 
War. The book is about a Vietnamese child (not sure how old) who was 
abandoned somehow (maybe fell off a boat?) but who had a pig for a 
companion. The two went on a long journey and had struggles like almost 
starving, but American soldiers rescued them. 
I have no idea what book this is...If any of you do know, please let me 
know so I can pass it on.
