Last week, I posted a request for quality camcorders that record to a
DVD. Unfortunately, David Lininger is the only reply I have received,
and I'm still searching for the best camcorder to recommend to my
principal. I've inquired of a tech guy in my system, but he has yet to
reply as well.

A friend suggested I visit Circuit City
http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/home.do as they have customer reviews on
their site.

David writes: I've been impressed with the Sony line. I bought three of
them for school a couple of years ago, and they are holding up well.
These aren't DVD, but DV tape. A couple of teachers bought them for
themselves, and all report good things. In April my wife and I broke
down and bought one for ourselves (now that all our kids are in
college). Again, we didn't go for the DVD model, but that was due to
price. The main reason I chose the Sony is that it uses a Zeiss lens.
Carl Zeiss, Nikkor, and Leica are the top three lenses, and all are so
close that it is impossible to say which is first, second, third. This
old photographer has always believed that if the lens isn't top quality
it doesn't matter what comes after that.

Thanks David.
