TARGET: I am an 8th grade teacher, training to be a librarian, and I have several boys who are reluctant readers and if they do read it is about hunting; deer hunting, bow hunting etc. Any ideas for titles that are successful in getting these boys to read? HIT: Many thanks to all who suggested books/magazines. I got a lot of wonderful suggestions. Here is a list of the information: Basically all of the books by Gary Paulson Sees Behind Trees by Michael Dorris Skeeter by Kay Jordan Smith Swallowing Stones by Joyce MacDonald? The Education of Little Tree by Carter Deathwatch by Robb White Caribou Crossing by Mel Ellis Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelson Alaska Bear Tales by Larry Kaniut Moose Tracks by Mary Casanova. Where the Red Fern Grows by Rawls Lion Hound by Kjelgaard (although the reading level may be high) My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George Indian Creek Chronicles by Pete Fromm Additional authors: Thomas Dygard may have a title which will fit. The closest in my collection are River Danger and Wilderness Peril which are set in the woods but not about hunting. Will Hobbs Francis Tucket Magazines like Field and Stream, American Angler and Minnesota Sportsman Capstone www.capstonepress.com <http://www.capstonepress.com/> Press offers The Great Outdoors series. It includes the following titles: Bow hunting, Deer hunting, Duck hunting, Pheasant hunting...etc. Heinemann has a title called Hunting. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
