Thank to everyone who responded! I feel prepared with some great online sources for this teacher and her classes. Here are the responses: www.authoryellowpages.com We have links to over 400 authors/illustrator sites at: http://www.mcelmeel.com/curriculum/authorlinks.html These are sites that are hosted by the author/illustrator themselves -- as opposed to commercial sites. The content is the responsibility of the subject or someone they "hire." Check out the author site http://www.mcelmeel.com/curriculum/authorlinks.html and the state choice award sites at http://www.mcelmeel.com/curriculum/bookawards.html Suggestions for additions to these two sites are always welcome. Please share whatever you find. For "classic" authors - Gale Student Resource Center is excellent. And of course the Gale literary databases. If you do not subscribe to any of the Gale databases, you can contact them. I am sure that you can get a 30 day trail subscription. Schedule it to coincide with the class visits if possible. Trying it with real kids can give you an idea if you want to subscribe yourself. The literary databases are probably way more than you need for your level student. But the Student Resource Center provides enough access to literary reference articles in Gale's databases, that you might find it to be useful for 8th graders. Do you have eLibrary available? Might be able to get a trial sub if not. In Topic search under biographies there are sections for Authors and Poets and Children's Authors. Yolen is in Children's and K. Hesse is in Authors and Poets for example. Links to mag and newspapers as well as selected websites. Although I haven't looked myself, the biography channel online may provide author biographies. Have a look at the list at http://www.shambles.net/pages/school/author/ This is part of a larger library page at http://www.shambles.net/librarian/ Hope this helps This is the page I use for my author study. Maybe there will be something that will help you. www.quia.com/pages/crestonauthorstudy.html --------------------------- Davinna Artibey Library Media Specialist Horace Mann Middle School Denver, CO -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
