Results of my question about suggested titles for a high school book club are below. Amy Short Library Media Specialist Westford Academy 30 Patten Road Westford, MA 01886 (978) 692-5570 x2143 ashort@westford.mec.edu -- Shattering Glass Gail Giles The Thief Megan Turner House of the Scorpion Nancy Farmer Eragon Chris Paolini Bronze Bow Elizabeth George Speare Whale Talk Chris Crutcher Dark Side of Nowhere Neal Shusterman The Last Book in the Universe W. Philbrick Enjoy! Dinah Haakenson, Library Media Director Wisconsin Lutheran High School, Milwaukee, WI drhaaken@wlhs.k12.wi.us ________________________________________________ My favorite book recently was House of Scorpions by Nancy Farmer. Kay Goss Director, Library Media Services Mansfield Secondary Library ________________________________________________ Hi Amy, We are starting our with Prey by Michael Crichton (this is on our state reading list this year) and the few who did not want to read that asked for A great and terrible beauty. I really wanted to do secret life of bees but couldn't sell it. I'd also like to do Kite Runner but we interlibrary loan our books for the club and there aren't enough copies of that. Good luck with your meeting. Carol Bandre Mater Dei High School Breese, IL 62230 cebandre@charter.net ___________________________________________________ Here are some suggestions that might appeal to both boys and girls at the high school level with the possibility for some good discussion: House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer Whaletalk by Chris Crutcher Shipwreck at the Bottom of the World by Jennifer Armstrong The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser Janelle Charlton Media Specialist Brooklyn Junior High School Brooklyn Park, MN 55443 charltonj@osseo.k12.mn.us ______________________________________________________ My girls have absolutely-- cannot keep it on my shelves-- loved Speak by Laurie Halse Andrrson. It deals with date rape, and so might be controversial, but I think the subject is handled in a sensitive way.
