True, Alice, but of course the suggestion did say "IF they will allow you". Some smaller conferences do allow taping for personal use, if the administration isn't already taping workshop presentations themselves for later sale. You'd definitely need permission from both the presenter AND the conference administration. Actually, another use of a small tape recorder (for me) is to record my comments to myself and my impressions and ideas as I go through the vendor hall - faster and easier than writing down stuff and I can transcribe it once I get home. .
