I do not subscribe to Junior Library Guild because I do select every book that goes into my library and have the funding to do so. As a reviewer for Teaching K-8 and Nick Jr. Family magazine, I read titles up to six months in advance of their publication date. This means by the end of July I have read almost all the picture books published in '05. I am consistantly impressed with the titles presented by Junior Library Guild. They choose their titles before any reviews appear or awards are given and they consistantly provide what I consider the best of the best. They understand reading levels, developmental levels and choose really great books. I always look forward to seeing what they have selected. As a professional I would never recommend that a library's collection development be turned over to an outside vendor but I do think that if you are not able to read before selecting and want to use part of your budget for excellent current materials Junior Library Guild is a good choice.
