Dear Wise Colleagues, Thank you for all your compassionate responses to my troubles. I feel better just knowing there are so many professionals who understand the problem. It was interesting that the majority of responses encouraged me to go ahead and tell the students to cite as if they were using the print journals and reference books. Many suggested that I enlist the help of an administrator or someone to whom my English chair might listen. (I guess the real problem is that she does not acknowledge my professional expertise.) Also, the appropriate tactic of presenting her with both the database and print version of the exact same information was suggested numerous times. Again, I thank you from my heart for your empathy, and I promise that I will continue to reach her while maintaining high standards of integrity. (Although I really feel like using a sledge hammer!)
