It is in my collection and there are no complaints.. Lester is pretty hard hitting, passionate, and truely believes in what he writes. Book has positive reviews (and Booklist says 8th-12th). There are several other authors (Crutcher, Zindel, Peters, Sone, Williams-Garcia, Anderson, McCormick, Frank for a few examples) who are heavier reading than parents may be comfortable with, but write with our age group in mind. Not writing for sensational effect, but exploring issues and ideas that almost every adolescent thinks about. View the work as a whole. Does the language fit the situations and characters? Are the situations portrayed realistically and honestly? Do the characters act in a manner consistent with the world the author has created?
