Hello - I am in my second year as Media Coordinator for a 6-8 middle school of 740+ students and growing. When I accepted the position, the principal and I discussed that I would be helping to take care of technology needs in the school. She said would try to get a position for a tech leader in our school. It didn't happen, and I am now considered both the Media Coordinator and Technology Leader for a school with two computer labs and a total of 340 computers throughout the school. I missed my library inventory last year to complete SIX different technology surveys/databases required for county inventory and reports, as well as administer computer skills testing. We went through a new computer imaging process this year which caused major breakdowns in the county system. I am "required" to attend three hour meetings after school every Thursday, 30 minutes away for technology needs. (not to mention, pay a sitter when I'm not getting paid myself) This is in addition to getting an learning a new circulation system (Destiny), administering a new online computer testing system, managing and teaching staff development workshops and teaching computer/library resource classes to our students. I feel that our school is essentially functioning with a part-time librarian. A discussion with my principal about time management ended in a "we'll see how this pans out in a few weeks" solution. I am open to suggestions from you seasoned professionals who may have been or are currently in this exhausting situation. I would like to handle this as a professional, not appear to be someone who is trying to shirk responsibility. Thank you, Linda L.
