The remark that-- "online forums and blogs are less credible than online content posted by mainstream media outlets" --- is interesting. I wonder how long it will take before this statement is considered obsolete, and the courts decide that online forums and blogs are considered to be the "voice of the people" and should be held with higher or equal credibility than those comments made by mainstream media? ~Shonda Shonda Brisco, MLIS US / Technology Librarian Fort Worth Country Day School Fort Worth, TX sbrisco@fwcds.org >>> Andy Carvin <acarvin@EDC.ORG> 10/06/05 3:45 PM >>> Yesterday while I was at the We Media conference, the Delaware Supreme Court made an important ruling on the rights of Internet users to publish anonymous comments critical of public officials. The court ruled that anonymity should be protected, but determined that the statements in question weren't construed as defamation because online forums and blogs are less credible than online content posted by mainstream media outlets. I've posted an analysis of the court opinion on my blog: http://www.andycarvin.com/ permalink: http://www.andycarvin.com/archives/2005/10/online_anonymit.html thanks, ac -- ----------------------------------- Andy Carvin Program Director EDC Center for Media & Community acarvin @ edc . org http://www.digitaldivide.net http://katrina05.blogspot.com Blog: http://www.andycarvin.com ----------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
