Dear Canadian LM_Netters, I have a 6th grade teacher that is interested (because they study a Canada unit) in obtaining some historical fiction or biography stories on Canadian persons (not necessarily famous) that have had an impact on (settling ?) Canada - could have positive or negative character traits. Time period = 18th and 19 century, when Canada was being founded/settled (westward expansion, etc). She would like shorter paged books so she could use them as short read alouds. Easy chapter books might even be ok. I was wondering if any of you could suggest titles/authors. I was thinking maybe there was someone instrumental in Canada who had connections with the U.S. Underground Railroad era. In our books the slaves were always trying to "get to Canada"; but nothing is ever mentioned about what happened to them once they arrived in Canada. Thank you so much for any suggestions you may have for me! Beth Dubbink, SLMS Creekside Middle School Zeeland, MI 49464 616-748-3312 __________________________________ Yahoo!
