Dear Canadian LM_Netters,
I have a 6th grade teacher that is interested (because
they study a Canada unit) in obtaining some historical
fiction or biography stories on Canadian persons (not
necessarily famous) that have had an impact on
(settling ?) Canada - could have positive or negative
character traits. Time period = 18th and 19 century,
when Canada was being founded/settled (westward
expansion, etc). She would like shorter paged books
so she could use them as short read alouds. Easy
chapter books might even be ok. I was wondering if
any of you could suggest titles/authors. I was
thinking maybe there was someone instrumental in
Canada who had connections with the U.S. Underground
Railroad era. In our books the slaves were always
trying to "get to Canada"; but nothing is ever
mentioned about what happened to them once they
arrived in Canada.
Thank you so much for any suggestions you may have for
me!
