Peter and Other Members:

When spyware totally hijacked my computer about a year ago - with pop-ups and all
kinds of other nonsense like Peter describes - our tech people recommended that I
arm my computer with Webroot Spy Sweeper. You can try it free for thirty days. I
recommended it to a YALSA colleague the other day whose computer was running wild
with pop-ups. She was astonished at its effectiveness. Here's the link:
http://www.webroot.com/consumer/products/spysweeper/

Someone may be using this "Drop Spam" without even knowing it. You might want to
check out Webroot. If you get it, be sure to always have it "on" - although you
can minimize the screen. If it isn't "on," it isn't working. And it must be
working for me because I haven't received any "Drop Spam" messages.

Dear Members,

Please, please do NOT use the anti-spam service, DropSpam. It causes all
who post to LM_NET to register with the company that makes the software.

The company uses very unscrupulous tactics, pretending to be LM_NET. They
spoof our return address to make the recipient is LM_NET. This is a
practice that the e-mail provider industry has a consensus position
AGAINST. Spoofing is an unaccepted practice, and DropSpam uses it in order
to build their business.

At the present time, one member of LM_NET is using DropSpam and it has
started to cause time-consuming problems for your LM_NET Moderator and all
who have posted to the group. The DropSpam people will NOT reveal who that
person is, and there appears to be no way to find out. I have contacted
Syracuse University, our listserver hosting organization, and asked their
listserver support folks for assistance. I will keep you posted.

In the meantime, please spread the word, DO NOT use DropSpam-- they are
worse than spammers!
