Thanks to all who responded with the solution to an active hyperlink in Word 2003. Here are the two solutions: Just hold down the Control button and then click on the hyperlink and it will open the browser and take you to the site. Choose "Auto correct options" from the "Tools" menu. Then choose the "AutoFormat as you type" tab. Make sure that "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks" is checked. Thanks!
