Re Lee Jamison's request for professional books:

I'm now working on an extended, annotated professional books bibliography, to
cover recent (in the past decade) books on children's lit., reading,
storytelling, booktalking, creative drama, and anything else that seems to fit.
I've
amassed and read 200 books on my list so far, and this week will start choosing
and annotating the best of them, but I'm always worried about what I've
missed. If you have books you truly love, I'd sure love to know about them. (All
I'll have to do then is locate copies to read in the next few weeks. Yikes.)

I'm looking for books for librarians AND teachers. It's interesting that when
you look up some of the most popular teacher texts on say, literature circles
or 6-Trait Writing, these books almost never get formally reviewed anywhere.
I'm trying to keep up on them all, but publishers of professional books tend
NOT to send review copies to reviewers unless they specifically request them,
and if I haven't seen a review of the book, how can I know enough to request
it? It's a catch 22 here, but I think it's important for us to keep up on the
professional literature as well as the children's books. I scan websites and
catalogs, and, of course, look for everything someone recommends on LM_NET. It's
endless, though. These books are expensive (my own books included, I know),
and librarians need to know they'll get used before they spend bucks on them.
(The next step is making them accessible to teachers. No point in buying
expensive professional books that just sit on your shelves. As a school librarian,
I
always wrestled with that problem.)

Looking at my database, I see that I'm underrepresented by ALA and Linworth,
and have lots from LU, Heinemann, Christopher-Gordon and Stenhouse. So if you
have a list of books or even a single title that you and your teachers depend
on, I'd sure love to see it. My new book's due out in Jan., and this is the
last part I haven't finished, much to my editor's dismay. Thanks for any pithy
suggestions you can send my way. (And any professional books publishers,
lurking on this site, yes, I'd welcome feedback and, possibly, review copies from
you.)

TIA and I'll post a hit--
