I have received several recommendations for books that might include strategies to
help students perform better on state mandated tests. Is there anyone familiar with
these titles? I am particularly interested in a “how-to” type manual that gives
some ideas on how to apply the research findings.

Get Them Thinking! Using Media Literacy to Prepare Students for State Assessments,
By Sue Lockwood Summers Linworth, 2004, 1-58683-172-0. 2004. 160 pages. $39.95

Leverage Your Library Program to Help Raise Test Scores: A Guide for Library Media
Specialists, Principals, Teachers, and Parents, by Audrey Church, Linworth, 2003

Information literacy and information skills instruction : applying research to
practice in the school library media center by Thomas, Nancy Pickering. Libraries
Unlimited, 2004,1-59158-081-1, $37.80

Student success and library media programs: a systems approach to research and best
practice ,by Farmer, Lesley S. J. ISBN: 1-59158-058-7,$50.70

We boost achievement! : evidence-based practice for school library media
specialists , by Loertscher, David V. $34.96 Publisher: Hi Willow Research & Pub.,
2003. ISBN: 0-931510-93-7

Many thanks to Margie Guillot who not only suggested several of these title, but
also attached reviews about each! Reviews are available from Follett (Titlewave)
or from Amazon. However, even after reading the reviews, I find it hard to
determine which might best suit my needs. A recommendation from someone who has
read and used one of these books would be most appreciated.
