Thanks to all of you who responded with your stories and concerns. I've copied all your responses (without your names) into a 6-page WORD document. If anyone wants a copy, email me and I'll send it directly to you as an attachment. (Now I hope all 16,000 don't ask for it!) To summarize, most of you who have dropped landline service don't miss it. The biggest concern raised is 911 service. Before you drop the landline you need to know what happens to cell phone 911 calls in your community. Some people mentioned that they are on the fringe of their cell phone coverage, so they may only have service in part of the house.
