I think it is fine that a patron donates; but it should always be with the clear understanding that a decision to add to the collection rests on professional judgment. And just like any donation, covered in our selection policy. I'm sure there are many special interest groups that would be happy provide materials, especially if they knew we had to add them to our collections. Do we really want to set a precedent of patrons and school board dictating or providing materials for the library collection without review to established selection standards?
