Robin-

I work in upstate New York. In my area, there is a need for librarians.
Many of the schools here are quite small and rural and may have only part
time jobs available. It is hard for them to recruit qualified applicants.
I don't know about the rest of the state, but all the people I graduated
with last spring seemed to have no trouble getting jobs.

In New York State Secondary schools, middle and high school, are mandated
by the state to have certified librarians with an MLS. Elementary schools
are not required to have any librarian at all, and if they do have one,
they do not have to be certified.

My undergraduate degree was in art and then I worked for two years in a
video store. I came to librarianship because I wanted a real career and I
love books and kids!

This is my first year as a librarian and I am really enjoying it. I think
I made the right choice!
