Hi, I am taking a course in Children and Young Adult Literature, and I have as assignment listed below. If anyone has any great ideas or suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. I need to choose a grade level and topic. I need to analyze my topic i.e. break-down into different aspects of the topic--for example, using a visual map/webbing strategy. Then I have to choose number of items given on the assignment that address the different aspects of your topic. I need to write my own annotations for my choice of 15 resources which are to be written as to a teacher with whom I might be collaborating. These annotations are to reflect why I think each particular resource is appropriate for the topic. Illustrations are good perhaps, way material is organized for grade level etc.,in-depth info. or a broad treatment etc. For three of these resources, you are required, in addition, to write about 1-2pp. extra on details of how resource treats a particular aspect of your topic well. Topics can be any topic that is big enough to break down into different aspects but not too broad. For example, you would not want to choose a topic as broad as World War I --or equivalent but a topic addressing Colonial America for 5th grade would be appropriate.. I think, by perhaps, asking teachers in a school what they cover with students in a particular grade might be a useful way to go about choosing a topic. I am having difficulty choosing a topic. I would like to keep at the higher grades - 4th, 5th or 6th. I was thinking something about science or history. I don't want to be to broad or to specific. The goal is to link literature across the curriculum with a specific topic. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
