Recently, I posted a question about a reading list generated by the Scholastic SRI
program which included many titles I found inappropriate(not so much content, but
outdated - Space books from the early 1990s - or of no interest - Charms for the
Easy Life) for my 5th grade son. I met with his wonderful teacher, who was
equally dismayed by the SRI product, which was promoted by the district Assessment
Coordinator. The result - you guessed it - was that I ended up volunteering to
create a list of good books which will interest 5th graders with a reading lexile
of approximately 600 - 1200. Now, for the questions:

1. The obvious one: titles, titles, titles...please give me your recommendations!
There are so many resources out there, but I want personal recommendations from
LM_NETters, the smartest, most helpful group ever!

2. What is the general opinion of the lexile.com site? You can enter the title
and it delivers the lexile level. It's pretty comprehensive, too. You can also
generate a list based on a certain lexile, interest level, etc.

I will post a HIT when I am inundated with replies!
