Colleagues, Several people asked for a hit to my request for magazines in the French language. Thanks to everyone who shared. There's several to choose from. We have Les Cles de l'actualite in our high school. When we were looking for a french magazine last year, we also considered Rolling Stone in French, which is published, I think, out of Canada. "Ca m'interesse" is a good French magazine for teens. We subscribe to it. www.caminteresse.fr check out the web site. (my teacher said the site is awesome) When I was in high school (a very, very long time ago) the library subscribed to "Paris Match" or maybe it was just "MATCH." It was like "LIFE" or similar to that. Large, glossy photographs, mainstream articles. In one of my previous libraries, the French teacher requested Paris Match - although expensive, it met her needs. We have a significant French-speaking population, and a wide range of French classes. We used to get Paris Match, but determined it to be a bit too racy and insignificant for educational value. Now we get L'Express - direct from Paris (it's actually cheaper for us than trying to order through the States). I can provide you with full order info if you would like. It's pretty good as a Time/Newsweek type alternative. We subscribe to some French Teen Magazines that are from: MEP School Division, Subscription Services, 915 Foster Street, Evanston, IL 60201. 1-888-266-5713, fax 847-676-1195. www.mep-eli.com <http://www.mep-eli.com/> or http://www.europaforeignbooks.com <http://www.europaforeignbooks.com/> / We only get the three that are kind of geared toward French 1, 2, 3 & 4: MOME, Jeunes, Ensemble, Presse-Papiers, but the above web site has some popular type magazines which might meet your needs. Our French teacher requested Journal Francais this year, and I have just recently placed an order. We should receive our first copy in December. My french teacher also likes Le Journal Francais. It's 12 issues for $41.00 800-232-1549 Subscription Services P.O. Box 17047 North Hollywood, CA 91615-7047 My French teacher asked for Salut. It's a little expensive though. There are some good French Canadian magazines out there and would probably be cheaper to get than the actual French magazines. The two that we get that come to mind are Okapi and Filles. We order these two through Ebsco We subscribe to Jeune et Jolie. It's definitely aimed at teen girls. I almost always get some sort of trinket (lip gloss, key chains, etc.) with each issue that I use as prizes! You can find it via Amazon, 12 issues for $64.57. You might also find it through your subscription service. Our French teachers asked us to bring in Star Inc. It is a pop culture magazine from Canada, (much like US or People) and our French students pick it up all the time. Because the content is familiar, even students in our French 1&2 classes can get the captions and things. Carol E.
