OMG - I hate AV. We took over the textbook circulation for the school a number of years ago and shortly after that I went to the principal and said Textbooks or AV - can't do both and still run the library." All the AV was then passed off to each department. Six years later I still get panicked phone calls from teachers when their VCRs, DVDs, video cameras don't work or when the overhead has packed it in or when they need a CD player and can't find one. I, with a silent thank you to a very understanding principal, remind them that I am no longer responsible for AV and tell them to contact their department chair. Patron: "No, that's not good enough. Don't you have a life-size?" Librarian: (pause) "Yes, but it's in use right now." Two teachers (one KNOWN for resenting VCRs and who would not use them) sat stymied. I checked out the electrical outlets -yes all plugged in. I checked all the connections - yes they were secure. I hit "play" -still nothing happened. Feeling equally stymied, I said, "I guess I can't make it work." So then teacher handed me the tape and said, "Well you can take it back." ACK.....the tape was not in the machine!! She had it in her hand the entire time.................. ........my eye roll told her how foolish it all had been...Thereafter it was our joke...If she said she had trouble, I asked if the tape was in the machine....
