Thanks to everyone who sent me suggestions for books about wants/needs. I actually think this would be a good topic for one of our authors to address. There doesn't seem to be much out there. Below is my original target and the few suggestions I received. Thanks! -------------------------------------------------------------------- I had a 2nd grade teacher send me a note this afternoon asking me for a book about wants/needs. I assume she wants to teach her children the difference between the two. Do you have any ideas for some picture books that would address this? -------------------------------------------------------------------- How about The Little Red Hen? A little abstract, but maybe. The quiltmaker's gift and, although it sounds silly, there's a Arthur sticker book called Glasses for D.W. that works well too. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett. Hilarious. People have to leave their homes, and take only the "absolute necessities." I always have the kids determine the difference between Needs and wants. not directly, but it's about wanting too much/ being content with what you have. Patricia Polacco has retold The Fisherman's Wife as Luba and the Wren. I've had wonderful success with it as a readaloud in 2nd and 3rd. Nancy Dickinson, Librarian Hillsboro Elem.
