Got two responses on this toughie: 

 I ran across some interesting web sites that gave me ideas about what type of 
books to look for. www.glencoe.com

There were ideas about swimming, weight on different planets, animal speeds and 
many more.


The Numbers Game : Baseball's Lifelong Fascination with Statistics  by Schwarz
The Physics of Baseball (3rd Edition)  by Adair



Also, out of print, but maybe available through used sources:
