Unfortunately, this image thing has always been with us - and doesn't
seem to be going away anytime soon. Perhaps when people hear themselves
saying (or thinking) over and over and over "Hey - She/He doesn't LOOK
like a librarian", they will begin to question the stestereotype
themselves. Anyway - I guess we just have to ignore it as best we can -
and keep our minds and hearts on our "vision statement". (See my
signature quote for my personal vision statement.)

Jacquie

"The Librarian, whose job is to heal ignorance, to keep life safe for
poetry and to put knowledge smack dab in the middle of the American
way."

Mark,
We should all try to improve the stereotypical "librarian image". Even
in my all time favorite movie It's a Wonderful LIfe when George got his
wish to never have been born Mary was no longer a beautiful, happy,
glowing woman married to Geroge with 4 kids but had become a drab,
fearful, old looking LIBRARIAN. Is that why we all have so many
different titles these days? It's a wonder I ever fulfilled my dream of
becoming one. Thanks for the web site and for the boost.
