This was our first year celebrating Teen Read Week and we had a different
activity each day. We had a poetry reading/coffee house one day. Students
or teachers could come read and share their favorite poems. We did have
people sign up for this one just in case it was a flop but it wasn't. One
day we had a Match Game where you matched the teacher to his or her favorite
book. We also had a book talk where we showcased the new books and also
provided refreshments. For this we also had a list and short summary of
every new book. One day we had a Pizza and Pages day (the favorite by far)
where students could come in and share their favorite book in a round table
discussion and eat pizza. We probably had 75 students participate in this
one over the course of lunch. Finally, we had every 10th checkout would
receive a prize. Everything went really well and we've even had requests to
have these types of activities throughout the year. The books that we gave
book talks on have been continuously checked out.
