[LM_NET] ELEM: easy section dilema

Good morning and welcome back to school!  I am a new
librarian in a K-5 school.  Our easy section is
alphabetized by first initial of the author's last
name ONLY!  I can't find any books.  Also we have a
lot of paperbacks mixed in with the hardbacks and they
seem to get lost.  Would it be crazy to just use a
Sharpie to write the first 3 letters of the author's
last name on the spine labels?  What do you all do
about the paperback issue?  There isn't enough room to
write the 3 initials there.
