On a related note to Anne's experience, I was reading "I took my frog to the
library" to a gr. 2 class yesterday. We talked about each animal in the book, and
looked for the spot in OUR library that the animal might have gone to. In the book
a hen lays an egg in the card catalog (which we no longer have), so I told the
students that a card catalog was something that told us lots of information about
all the books we had in our library. I then asked the students where in OUR
library might the hen have laid her egg (thinking, of course of our OPAC). Well,
one little boy, bless his heart, pointed at me, and said, "Mrs. Gorvett, you know
EVERYTHING about ALL the books in our library". Sadly, not true - but it was nice
to hear!

Sometimes I even amaze myself. Students often ask for books and give me
very little information to go on. Today a second grader asked for that
"Lookin' at me" book. I asked for a little more information and she said
"You know all the animals were lookin' at me." Of course I went straight to
the shelf and pulled off "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See."
