I thought you may want to know what I found out. About 85% of you who responded to my situation agreed that I did the right thing. I should treat the principal as any other patron and be objective in my research. Many of you pointed out that I was in no way supporting the policy of dress codes. Many of you pointed out that my response to the union should be that I cannot discuss it at all because I would be comprimising my professional responsiblity to comprimise. 1 person said that, he did not consider the principal his patron. 1 person warned me to tread lightly should I be non-tenured. I called ALA about this and spoke to Julie Walker the "head" of school library division. She agreed. I explored the ALA website and found in the Library Bill of Rights, the code of professional ethics and the interpertation of the Library Bill of Rights support for my position as well. Finally through the ALA website I found the state of NJ has a law as do 48 states protecting the right of privacy of patrons records and the information contained within them.
