My daughter picked James Taylor's How Sweet it is to Be Loved By You for her dance with her daddy. It was very sweet. Thanks for bringing back a lovely memory. If your daughter likes country music Butterfly Kisses is also very sweet for a father/daughter dance. Beth *** For the groom and his mother: I have done that twice so far and used the same song. It is called My Son and is on an album or cd by Tony Kenny. I purchased it at an Irish store. I had to have them cut the very end because is says "my one and only son" but the boys said they didn't mind if it came through. If she uses it she should preview. It is quite emotional. At the wedding I tried not to concentrate on the words. *** Sunrise, Sunset and Butterfly Kisses *** "Butterfly Kisses" and "I Hope You Dance" have both been used at recent weddings I've attended. Another idea used by one of my friends was to have the bride dance with her dad to their parents "song" (in that case it was "Bridge over Troubled Waters") and the groom with his mother to his parents' song ("Love Will Keep Us Together") It was very touching and entertaining. *** My dad surprised me with A Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong. It was the only time that whole day that I cried. It sort of summed up everything that he did for me throughout my life. The fact that it was a surprise made it all the more special because I know he had taken the time to think about what the moment would be like. It was the best part of the whole day - just don't tell my *** Someone used "My Girl" by The Temptations. *** Another traditional parent-child song is "Sunrise, sunset" from Fiddler on the Roof. My dad and I just danced to a fun swing tune. Pick something both will enjoy! And, of course, congratulations! *** We found tons of helpful music ideas in a book titled THe Everything Wedding Book. Our local library had a copy on their shelves but I did buy one for our reference. We chose Wind Beneath my Wings for the dad and daughter dance and the groom chose Through the Years ( Kenny Rogers) for his special dance with his mom. My daughter also had an outdoor wedding and we had a wonderful time in the planning process. The day was picture perfect. Emjoy! *** My daughter got married in July - she and her Dad danced to "My Girl" (Temptations) A friend of her's danced to "Ain't no Mountain High Enough" *** This reply is for your previous question - When our daughter got married, she and her dad danced to his favorite song - Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again." I know this isn't what you were looking for but thought you might get a kick out of it - everyone at the reception thought it was great. And it was really nice of our daughter to let him have his way on this since it was the only decision he made!! Good luck to you - *** At my wedding my father and I (and then my stepfather and I) danced to "Unforgettable" by Natalie Cole (that was a posthumous duet with her father.) *** My son chose "Unforgetable" by Nat King Cole for our dance and I was thrilled! *** My best friend and I both chose the same song for our father daughter dance. It's not one I've heard used before but we both chose it independently so there must be something to it. The song is "It's your song" by Garth Brooks. I believe it's a tribute to his mother but the song isn't gender specific. It's all about how he owes his success in life to his mothers support. I chose the song to say thank you to my father. *** Just for a different suggestion - my father and I danced to Paul Simon's "Father and Daughter" which is a bit more uptempo than I would've originally chosen. However, the lyrics are beautiful. You can find them on Google. Good luck with everything! *** I'm a lurker on LM_NET but my daughter got married a year ago and I had to respond. My husband requested that they dance to A Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong. I wasn't crazy about that, but it was beautiful and I am so glad that I didn't protest. Also, my brother, who sings, taped himself singing Butterfly Kisses for my niece's wedding and they danced to that. (She didn't know ahead of time, only that they were going to dance to that song.) There wasn't a dry eye in the place. Wind Beneath My Wings is another great song -my son-in-law danced with his mom for that one and it could also be used for a mother-daughter. Good luck and have a wonderful wedding-enjoy, the day will fly by. *** There are a whole bunch of songs on this site: http://www.weddingvendors.com/music/father_dauther_dances/ I cried just reading some of the song titles. I think In My LIfe, by the Beatles might be perfect. Isn't She Lovely, by Stevie Wonder is great, too. There are many great choices on that web site. Enjoy--and have a tissue handy. *** Soul of My Soul,. by Michael Bolton, sung about his daughters Jacquie "The Librarian, whose job is to heal ignorance, to keep life safe for poetry and to put knowledge smack dab in the middle of the American way."
