I was called in to do a demo with a 3rd grade class. They would prefer something not literature based and not using technology, as they don't have the capabilities for demo purposes. I tried a dictionary lesson today where I am student teaching with a 3rd grade class that I had wanted to do on my demo. The children seemed to have a lot of difficulty with it. It's quite a large dictionary, but all that is available there. It seems as though they cannot alphabetize yet completely. I did not get through even half the lesson, as looking up a few words took most of the time. I'm looking for alternative lessons or even a more manageable dictionary idea. Any help would be really appreciated.
