Dear Fellow Library Lovers, Below please find the press release which was sent out yesterday announcing today's amazing happening. In consultation with the many learned reference librarians at the LA Public Library we found it didn't have a name. Thus was born: "SCA, Sequential Chronological Anomaly." Each of you, please take professional pride in your assistance to each patron, young and old, for you never know what you are stimulating in their minds! In this case, the results herein, we hope, will allow this phrase to go down in history in a dictionary near you!!! Like many things, all because of a Librarian! :) [And hopefully there are 'teachable moments' in this from the science and math fields... If you'd like HS curricula about this I expect my ex, a planetary space scientist, an HS teacher will share his imaginative items and multiplicity of web links.] Thanks again, from the thousands of deliriously happy patrons who are too shy to say "thanks!" Best wishes and Happy SCA Day! Jane Lowenthal Library of California Board =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "At precisely 1 hour, 2 minutes and 3 seconds after both, midnight and noon on Tuesday April 4th, 2006, we shall enjoy an extremely rare chronological occurrence" shared Los Angeles based Mediator, Jane Lowenthal. "The date when written out will be 01-02-03 04-05-06." "You have to fudge a little," added Geoff Chester, Public Affairs Officer at the US Navy Observatory in Washington, D.C, as we use the abbreviation of '06 for 2006. The pair researched this anomaly and found there had not been a name for it or a definition and thus was born: "SCA, Sequential Chronological Anomaly." Spelled S-C-A and pronounced "SKAY" Ms. Lowenthal explains it as "a sequence of numbers, which specify a moment in time." This exact SCA will not happen for another 100 years, but the next SCA, 02-03-04 05-06-07, will occur in 13 months! Mr. Chester suggests also celebrating universal time, the standard scientific time. This begins four hours ahead of eastern daylight time. So 01-02-03-04-05-06 can be celebrated at 9:02 p.m. EDT (Monday eve) by calling 202-762-1401 and waiting for the universal time pronouncement from the U.S. Naval Observatory's "master clock." The clock is also available at: http://tycho.usno.navy.mil/what1.html. As the rest of the world uses the convention of number of the day first then the month, Europe will enjoy a SCA Day next month. Wishing you "Happy SCA Day!!!" 01-02-03 04-05-06 For more information, contact: Jane Lowenthal, Los Angeles based Mediator/Arbitrator (818) 366-5009 Geoff Chester, Public Affairs Officer, US Navy Observatory, D.C.
