An interpreter for hearing impaired at our school is
looking for a book title. She heard part of the book
read at a conference. She contacted the presenter from
the conference, but the presenter doesn't remember the
book title. It is a book that tells what it was like
to be deaf after the turn of the century(?). A boy and
a girl run away from an institution. At that time deaf
people were treated like they were retarded. They got
married and went to a big city. They saved up money to
buy a car. When they gave the salesman the money for
the car, the salesman kept the money and didn't give
them a car. They had no recourse through the courts
because no one understood them. They had children?

Thanks in advance,
Deb
