[LM_NET] TECH: PC security in lab

We have 8 networked computers for students, 2 macs and 6 pc's. 
There is mac software to control student access to systems, but
we can't find a way to let the students use the OPEN ACCESS
writing program on the pc's, while controlling their access to
the system so they can't add passwords or delete the printer,
etc.

It seems as if lanschool or link or clean slate would be
overkill (and also expensive, if there's some way to use
existing software for this). 

The pc's are HP Compaq dc5100 SFF.  (When I tried to discuss the
problem with the HP man in Bangalore, that name did not mean
much.)

Any help would be appreciated.
