I'm interested in learning if there are "alternatives" to online database subscriptions being used by librarians / schools that do not / cannot afford to subscribe to subscription online databases? For example, MarcoPolo has a great wealth of information that might be used for research and I have a TON of great website information that could be used for research by students that has been sent to us by Sybil Finemel from the LII (thank you once again, Sybil). I checked the archives and discovered other suggestions or questions but no HIT on this topic (at least none from the last three years that I could find), so I am interested in knowing what you're using if you don't subscribe to online databases for class research projects? If you are using ONLY alternatives to online database subscriptions, could you let me know why? Also, what are some of the best sites (or even free online databases) that you're using with your students? Are there any concerns about accuracy, authority, etc.? I'll post a HIT if anyone is interested. ~Shonda Shonda Brisco, MLIS US / Technology Librarian 4200 Country Day Lane Fort Worth Country Day School Fort Worth, TX 817.732.7718 ext. 339 "Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible." ~St. Francis of Assisi sbrisco@fwcds.org http://www.fwcds.org/campus/libraries/default.asp -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
