Last year one of my English teachers collaborated with me on a research
project incorporating reviews of music albums and poetry. Students were to
select an artist, find lyrics to one of their songs as well as reviews of
the artist and/or album. They were to analyse the song in terms of poetry
elements such as imagery and metaphor.
She wasn't totally happy with how the project came out and wants to work on
it for this year. We would like to find a song or two with strong poetry
elements that we can use as the model.
We both have songs and artists in mind, Dylan for example but we would like
something more current to the students she has. Current music, however,
isn't not either of our strong point.
Has anyone done a similar project? Do you have some song's/artists that you
would recommend? She is willing to considre rap, but only if it has more
than just rhyme.
