Dear friends,
I'm hoping this is not inappropriate, but I've seen similar things, so I hope
nobody is offended.
One of our PE teachers has a sister living in Hendersonville, TN. On Friday, April
7, her husband, a firefighter, called to tell her that their home was directly in
the path of a tornado. She got her two boys, ages 3 and 6, downstairs then covered
them with her own body to protect them. The house was demolished completely, but
the two little boys were virtually unharmed. The mom, Amy Hawkins, was covered by
fallen bricks and has a severe back injury and is paralyzed from the waist down.
The doctors can't say she'll never walk again, but they also can't say that she
will. Now it's a waiting game.
Her husband and sons are living in a rental house and she is in a rehab hospital in
Atlanta. Her husband's fire department buddies are working to get Extreme Makeover:
Home Edition to choose this family to be the recipients of a brand new house, one
that will be handicapped accessible for a mom who risked her own life to save her
babies! They have started this petition drive to get the attention of ABC. If you
have a minute and you wouldn't mind, please follow this link and click on "sign the
petition". Thanks so much!
