The target has been found! It wasn't a poem at all but thanks to two
librarians- we have two possibilities which were both accepted very happily
by my psychologist. Since I also had a request for a posting of the answer
here are the two offerings:
A Friend is one to whom one may pour out the contents of one's heart, chaff
and grain together, knowing that the gentlest of hands will take and sift
it, keep what is worth keeping and with a breath of kindness blow the rest
away.
- Arabian Proverb -

and

"Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person,
having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all
right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together . . ."

accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers." -
