Please be aware that ALA schedules conferences in venues that offer the most value to conference attendees. If a conference was scheduled there during its peak season, then registration rates, hotel rooms, etc. would all cost more. As someone who was born and raised in Pennsylvania and who moved to New Orleans and lived & worked there for 8 years in the 1990s, I concur that it is indeed hot there in the summer. However, everywhere you go is air conditioned, and if you dress accordingly and drink lots of water, the weather is tolerable. In my humble opinion, I think the benefits of visiting an historical city rich in culture as well as the chance to take part in some first rate professional development opportunities, far outweigh the fact that the temperature and humidity are high. -Beth Yoke Beth Yoke Executive Director Young Adult Library Services Association, fastest growing division of the American Library Association 50 E.
