[LM_NET] TARGET - PHD+ scanner troubleshooting

Hello, collective wisdom,

I am experiencing problems with my PHD+ scanner.  Last year the district
switched to Follett Destiny (which I love) and bought these scanners
(which I hate) as part of the package.  Each of the elementary aides is
expected to use the scanners for circulation, but when there are
problems no one here seems to know much about them.  

My question is this - is there some kind of software that needs to be
installed on the PHD itself?  When the PHD starts up, the screen simply
displays "Scan a Barcode."  I was told that that is the ONLY thing it
will do - we can't type numbers in, or navigate to any menus on the PHD
itself.  Is there something we are missing?  Please reply off-list.
